solo exhibition “[space.]”
“In my abstract works, I explored the synesthesia of nostalgia, a feeling we associate with a distant place or moment, which paints emotional images through a distorted perception of past time and our present state; a curiosity for the strange and distant, often shrouded in a fog of memories or premonitions. My paintings capture the moods and inclinations of myself as an artist in the moment, or the essence of longings, daydreams, and the free flow of associations of wandering thoughts in vivid, expressive colors. The self in constant flux and chaos, often alone, desperate, exposed, searching for meaning, permanence.
I discovered that we yearn for the vastness of space, the intergalactic web that connects us all, no matter how cold and terrifying that place may be, perhaps precisely because of that; nothing interests us more than that which we cannot understand or reach. I use these visual elements of the forces of nature to show how our longing for something that is always beyond our reach, and the thrill of terror, of the unknown, are the driving force behind our desire to finally understand ourselves and to be understood, to create space for ourselves—a never-ending search for connection and love that is inherent in us.
These painterly expressions convey the feeling of needing to understand something that we are fundamentally a part of, that is a part of us, yet just as we should reach a conclusion, it blurs, misunderstood and alone.
Space gives us back perspective."
